Ride the Boulevard this Saturday

Bike the Boulevard Flier

This Saturday, Bike the Boulevard will be celebrating its first anniversary.

The bike ride traverses El Cajon Boulevard, a street that (to date) continues to be a major east-west thoroughfare primarily for automobiles. However, this Saturday the street will once again be home to throngs of cyclists riding to have fun and partake in all that the Boulevard has to offer at a more people-centric pace. El Cajon Boulevard is one street that could benefit tremendously from a road diet which in turn would benefit all businesses located along the Boulevard. Bike the Boulevard will have multiple stops at various businesses celebrating the Boulevard’s cultural and business diversity.

Bike the Boulevard
When: November 19, 2011 starting at noon, but riders can join in at any time along the route. See flier above for specific details.
Where: Along El Cajon Boulevard

The ride starts at noon at Live Wire where participants will be bestowed with bicycle balloon ornaments. This will be followed by,

$1 slices at Pizzeria Luigi, complimentary chili and corn bread at Eleven, drink specials throughout the day, great local beer options, Flip cupcake contest at Til Two sponsored by PubCakes, a performance from the female punk group JUNGLE FEVER Trophy Motorcycles/Rat Pack, poker prizes and probably rain to add to the overall excitement.

As of this writing 118 people have signed up to ride and immerse themselves in all that El Cajon Boulevard has to offer, including art, food and fun.

According to Beryl Forman, Marketing Director of the El Cajon Business Improvement Association, the purpose of the ride is “to get a bunch of people out on a bicycle on a Saturday afternoon, exploring a number of awesome businesses along the Boulevard and having fun!”

In what is probably a rather unusual ride tradition in an otherwise sunny San Diego, nearly all past rides have had to contend with rain or the threat of rain. Yet, despite the potential for riding in the rain, participants have been undeterred and have shown up in droves to ride along the Boulevard to experience all that it has to offer. Below are some photos from past Bike the Boulevard rides that have had a tremendous showing.
