National and local bicycle, pedestrian and transit advocates have launched a national call-in day to ask all citizens to ask their representatives in the House to oppose the Transportation Bill and for their Senators to support the Senate amendment. National opposition to the original bill has been strong and locally both Channel 10 and Channel 7 covered the issue and how it would affect the most vulnerable users on our already dangerous streets. According to the Alliance for Biking and Walking the bill as it is currently written,

removes dedicated funding for walking and biking and allows state DOTs to opt-out of safe street programs. The Cardin-Cochran amendment would improve the bill by ensuring that local governments can apply directly for funds to build walking and biking infrastructure.

The League of American Bicyclists has a page to alert your elected representatives either via an online form or by phone.
