Reconfigure the El Cajon Blvd, Park Blvd, Normal Street Intersection
The confusing, high-speed intersection at El Cajon Blvd, Park Blvd, and Normal Street is a hotspot for crashes, near-misses, and, tragically, fatal collisions — including the 2023 death of Josh Gilliland. With new housing, rising pedestrian and bike traffic, and major transit stops nearby, the stakes are only growing. Despite small improvements, this intersection remains hostile to people walking, biking, and taking transit.
🛑 It’s time for the City to fix this intersection before more lives are lost.
📬 Tell Councilmember Whitburn, Mayor Todd Gloria, and the San Diego Department of Transportation to act now: conduct a formal study and implement a safe, quick-build roundabout with pedestrian islands and bike-friendly design.
