Time to Act: Contact your Assemblymember to vote YES on Senate Bill 1464 (our 3-foot passing bill)

Last year, Governor Brown disappointed riders all across California by inexplicably vetoing the three foot passing bill.

This year advocates up in Sacramento reintroduced the bill to ensure its passage. Senate Bill 1464 can be best summarized as follows:

Amends California Vehicle Code Section 21750 to specify three feet as the minimum passing distance for motor vehicles overtaking bicycles in the same lane.

Together with TransformCA, the California Bicycle Coalition now needs the support from all of you to urge your respective Assemblymembers to vote “yes” on SB 1464 to ensure that the bill then moves along to become law.

Now SB 1464 is headed to a vote by the California Assembly on Friday, Aug. 24, and we need your support one more time.

Once again, we’re partnering with our allies at TransForm to make it easy for you to express your support for SB 1464. Simply go to the TransForm website and follow the instructions for contacting your Assemblymember by email.

You’ll find a ready-to-send message of support you can also personalize. If you or someone you know has been injured by a driver passing from behind, please include the basic details in your message. Help your legislator understand why enacting this bill is so important for making our roads safer.
Sending a message only takes a moment, but it’ll make a big difference.
We at CBC and our co-sponsor, the City of Los Angeles, are grateful for your past support and look forward to your help in winning passage for SB 1464 in the Assembly. Let’s make California the nation’s 22nd state to enact a specified passing distance to help protect bicyclists.
