Camp Pendleton Closed to Bicycles Saturday Morning and August 6-8, 14-16

From Caltrans:

SAN DIEGO – Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton will be closed to bicycles on Saturday from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. to accommodate an on-base triathlon. The bike path north of Las Pulgas Road will remain open.

Bicycles are permitted on freeway shoulders along Interstate 5 between Harbor Drive and Las Pulgas Road and may be used as an alternate route. It is recommended that only expert riders use freeway shoulder bike routes.

Where permitted along freeway shoulders, bicycles must exit at all off-ramps, weigh stations and vista points to avoid the possibility of conflict with vehicle traffic. A map of bike routes and bikeways on or near freeways in San Diego and Imperial counties is available on the Caltrans website.

Update from Ed at the Orange County Bicycle Coalition who asked for clarification from Seth Cutter and learned the following: The Marines are shutting the path down for portions of both weeks. The path will be shut down this Monday August 6th through Wednesday the 8th, and again TUESDAY Aug. 14th through Thursday Aug. 16th.

The Orange County Bicycle Coalition has very helpful maps and detailed routing on how to ride north and south with the detours
