Open Thread: Ruffin Road Bike Lane Striping
Posted By Sam Ollinger on February 13, 2012
Use this space as an open thread to discuss the Ruffin Road bike lane striping. Have you noticed any changes while riding the road? Do you have any photos showing new markings? How do you think the recent rains will affect the proposed completion date?
Previous coverage on the Ruffin Road bike lane striping
UPDATE: Earlier today Council Member Lorie Zapf of District 6 promised to follow up by stating this on twitter,
She did and received a response from the City’s project manager,
So we have another 16 days before these bike lanes will be ready for use. Please to leave a comment if you see anything change or learn anything else before the end of the month

Last Wednesday when I last rode southbound on Ruffin there were new reference marks painted to replace those that had worn away over the past year and a half. And people wonder why the City has chronic financial problems! I hope that surface irregularities near the curb are repaired before the striping, especially on Murphy Canyon Rd. south of Stonecrest Blvd. All too often bike lanes are striped over completely unridable pavement. This only makes matters worse when hothead drivers expect cyclists to ride within the bike lane.
I too have been seeing the new “pre-striping” I work on this route and see its non-progress everyday. When I called they said August. Good job Sam keeping up and having a voice that is listened too.
Striping is complete on Murphy Canyon Road from the 15 SB onramp north. This is included in the Ruffin Road project.
Did they fix the pavement before striping the bike lanes?
Nope. Rode it last night.
The bike lane striped on Murphy Canyon Road south of Stonecrest is substandard in width and in quality. It will be a problem for many.
I have been submitting service requests to fix the pavement here for three years. What is the justification for continuing to ignore this? I sent another email to District 6 and have not received a response. Do I have to go to the media again for help? Does a cyclist need to be injured or killed here before the city will take action?
Bike lanes now striped Clairemont Mesa Blvd to Kearny Villa Rd… now for the part that really counts! Still waiting on that one.
