Voice your support for a car-free Balboa Park Plaza tonight

Thanks to San Diego Coalition Executive Director, Kathy Keehan, for alerting us to good article in SignOnSanDiego regarding making Balboa Park Plaza a car-free zone in time for the 2015 Centennial Celebration, celebrating the Panama California Exposition.
Tonight at 6 PM there is a Balboa Park Committee meeting in the Santa Fe Room of the Balboa Park Club. Please attend to voice your support for creating a car-free Balboa Park Plaza.

The meeting went well – the committee unanimously supported moving forward with designing Plaza de Panama to remove the parking and make it more of a pedestrian (and bicycle) space. There’s going to be a lot of work between where we are now and where the plaza will hopefully be in 2014. so far the proposal is simply to move the road over to the west side of the plaza, removing the parking in front of the art museum and making it a pedestrian plaza (really just extending the Prado out to the fountain), but cars will continue to be able to get through the park on the Laurel Street bridge, through the plaza and down to the air and space museum.
It’s a step, a slow one, but one in the right direction.
