J,

No words can express the gratitude we have for many whom have played a key role in Gabe's surviving this accident. Many injuries but alive and we are so thankful for so much. He is a true "Officer and Gentleman "and beautiful family man. Gabe loves to ride to commute to work and for fun. Our goal to walk again and then ride- Peace and love to you avid riders and enjoy the ride and pray for protection when you do. Just remember this can happen but do not be afraid to enjoy those pedals.

Thanks
B

Thanks for the info Jeremy.

Update: No broken hip - two breaks to his right femur. Still critical and not completely out of the woods but stable. Please continue with your thoughts and prayers.

I am glad to know that Gabe is going to be alright. It was not a hit and run, however I am skeptical on commenting too much as there will most likely be some legal circumstance in the future and I don't want to say something I shouldn't. It happened so fast it was a blink of an eye fast. One second Gabe was peddaling through and the next he was laid out. Everyone seemed to freeze for what seemed like 10 seconds but in reality it was probably an instantaneous reaction. I have alot to say but I think I should be saying it to Gabe. If he gets well enough and wants to talk I am reachable. I too am a Navy man. Editor I am interesting in passing email address to Phil if possible. Jeremy

Editor's note: I have forwarded your email address to Phil

We don't know anything yet. Perhaps J - the witness knows and can elaborate since he saw it.

Hi...the guy hit is an Navy officemate of mine. Thank you for your concern. He got hammered but is recovering at UCSD medical center. Broken hip, broken right leg, lots of cuts and bruises. Gabe is such a great and friendly guy. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. As a fellow roadie - this sucks.

I would like to pass the thanks out to the bystander who saw it and grabbed Gabe's phone and called 911 and his wife. That made all the difference. I spent 6hrs in the waiting room waiting for him to come out of surgery and that simple act of kindness resonated the whole night. Thank you.

The UT and SDNN are also reporting that a bicyclist was struck and killed by a city truck in the Oak Park area this afternoon. If both were indeed fatalities, this has been a particularly tragic day.
